2D Design and Color Theory

Course: 2D Design and Color Theory

Project: Understanding Value: Halftone Grid

Description: Students design a seven step value scale from light to dark. Through metamorphosis, each square of the value scale changes in composition to accommodate darker line weights, larger shapes, or increasing design elements which accumulates into a darker tone. Students then repeat this value scale to create a grid which, through it’s repetition, creates a larger pattern.

Learning Outcomes: Students demonstrate an understanding of key design elements such as value, shape, line-weight, and texture while applying those to principles such as proportion, scale, rhythm, and pattern.
